IDWA is registered with CAC and accredited by the Palace of the Olu of Warri. The association is nonpolitical and non-religious, focusing on promoting Itsekiri culture. Meetings are held every secondSunday of the month, with discussions on culture, heritage, and gender issues. The Itsekiri Language Isthe main language for communication, with translations done in English for the benefit of wives whodo not understand the language
IDWA - Itsekiri Daughter and Wives Association of Nigeria is a non-profit organization addressing the needs of the daughters and wives of the Itsekiri' indigenous people from Southern Nigeria.
We help organizations strengthen people capacity, learning and development, and overall culture to better deliver on your mission.
We facilitate capacity development and cultural orientation necessary for the support and guide of the girl child from teenager to adulthood that enable a positive contribution for economic development of the nation.
Our Activities
NOTABLE ACTIVITIES
- Scholarship awards to over 80 students
- Cultural events, including lectures and seminars
- Health talks and medical check-ups
- Cultural dance lessons and cooking classes
- Annual summer school held for two weeks in Benin, followed by a cultural display at the closing
ceremony, emulated by the other branches. Over 120 students have benefited.
· -Lectures were given during COVID and palliative foodstuff both needy members and members of the public
- Travel locally and internationally to Ghana and Dubai
- Participation in traditional festivals at the palace coronation thanksgiving services and the recent
homecoming of the First Lady
-Annual AGM in January, with representatives from all branches, where we plan the activities for the year
